Abstract
This study aimed to examine to what extent child neglect repeatedly occurs as child age increases, what are repeat types of child neglect, and what correlates predict repeat types of child neglect. This study selected 2,083 children for the sample among the children who participated in the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey Study for 3 waves from 2011 to 2013. Repeat types of child neglect were classified as ¡°no occurrence¡±, ¡°one-time occurrence¡±, ¡°two-time occurrence¡±, and ¡°three-time occurrence¡±. Three-time occurrence was defined as neglect occurring and re-occuring over 3 years. Multinomial regression analysis using multinomial logit model examined what correlates predict the repeat types of child neglect. The results showed that approximately 10% of children in the study sample experienced neglect throughout 3 waves. Multinomial logistic regression analysis found that father¡¯s education level, double income earning household, and the number of siblings significantly predicted the two-time occurrence of child neglect; mother¡¯s education level, double income earning household, and family income significantly predicted the three-time occurrence of child neglect. Policy and practice implications were discussed based on the findings.
